About Us

The Old Dominion Chrysanthemum Society, Inc. (ODCS) is a group of approximately 40 members, primarily Northern Virginians (though we have members from throughout the National Capital area and beyond) who are interested in growing the many varieties of chrysanthemums. We have members of all ages who range from experienced growers who cultivate mums for exhibition shows to casual gardeners.

ODCS is a member of the National Chrysanthemum Society (NCS, mums.org), and we share the mission of the NCS, which is to promote and encourage interest in the active cultivation, propagation, and improvement in the standards of excellence of chrysanthemums.

Each year ODCS members order rooted cuttings of a wide variety of chrysanthemum plants for their use and for public sale in Northern Virginia. At end of the growing season, ODCS organizes a show for exhibiting chrysanthemum blossoms at which members compete for society recognition, ribbons, and prizes. These annual shows are conducted under the auspices of the National Chrysanthemum society and the National Federation of Garden Clubs.

Throughout the year, ODCS communicates with members through a monthly newsletter, and conducts monthly meetings via Zoom for updates on activities and to share questions and answers about growing mums. We also organize events for members to socialize and share information.

See the Membership page on this site for information on joining.
